There is a great deal of information about the physical and psychological
changes associated with human aging. One of the most widely studied is a natural
circumstance for female adults called menopause.
Menopause is the cessation of menses (ovulation) and is generally defined
as a lack of a period for 1 year. While onset varies, in the United States it occurs to
women between the ages of 48 to 51 years of age, unless there has been surgical
intervention.
Perimenopause precedes menopause by several years. It is generally
believed that perimenopause is the result of diminshed ovarian function resulting in the
production of fewer hormones which regulate the female body. External factors such
